Set on the lively Rua de São Paulo, which in recent years has become one of Lisbon’s hotspots for travelers and locals alike, the Independente group presents the Independente Bica. Located in a converted bed-and-breakfast within a building that is over one-hundred and fifty years old. Now reborn as a Hotel drawing inspiration from Japanese design which departs from the mold of what’s conventional.

The Independente Lisbon-Bica portrays a celebration of all that is cool, fun and lively, integrating design philosophy and the simplicity of Japanese interiors. The rooms feature clean and functional aesthetics with unique built-in sustainably sourced birchwood furniture. All rooms feature, state-of-the-art appliances including a high-definition TV with full casting capabilities, SMEG minibars that offer Japanese and Portuguese products.

A Hotel within a Hotel — Mateus Hotel is taking over the two upper floors of Independente Lisboa-Bica, Independente’s new property set in an old guesthouse built in 1849. Right in the midst of the lively Rua de São Paulo, the heart of Lisbon’s creative and nightlife scene.

Faithful to the brand’s DNA in creating places that unite locals and travelers, the lobby and the restaurant at Independente Bica coexist in the same space. The hotel reception extends and becomes an izakaya with an inspiring food and drinks offering as well as specialty coffee. Bica-San, the lobby’s restaurant, is set to thrill you with its Japanese inspired Portuguese food.
